Peterborough takes 2-0 series lead with 16-11 victory over Brampton

Aug 22, 2006 - The Peterborough Lakers took a 2-0 series lead in the best of seven Major Series Lacrosse Championship as they defeated the Brampton Excelsiors by the score of 16-11 at the Peterborough Memorial Centre Tuesday night.

Peterborough trailed 9-6 late in the second period before answering back with six straight to take a 12-9 lead seven minutes into the third period.

John Grant led the Lakers offense with a season high 11 points adding five goals and six assists. Tracey Kelusky contributed with three goals and five assists while Dan Carey (3G, 4A) and Scott Evans (4G, 2A) chipped in with seven and six points respectively.

Josh Sanderson led the Excelsiors with three goals and two assists while Blaine Manning (2G, 2A) and Jim Veltman (4A) added four points each in the loss.

In goal, the Lakers Pat O'Toole recorded his 15th victory of the season while Brampton's Brandon Miller suffered his second straight loss dropping his overall 2006 record to 11-2-2.

Game 3 of this series is Thursday, August 24th in Brampton at the Powerade Centre at 8:00 p.m.
