Lakers defeat Excelsiors 11-10 in Double Overtime

Aug 20, 2006 - The Peterborough Lakers defeated the Brampton Excelsiors 11-10 in double overtime in Game One of the best of seven Major Series Lacrosse Championship series at the Powerade Centre Sunday night.

Peterborough trailed 8-6 midway through the third period before Tracey Kelusky would set up John Grant and Scott Evans for two of his game high seven assists tying the game 8-8 after 60 minutes. In the first overtime teams would share goals two each. In the second overtime, the Lakers Chris Panos scored the game winner at 12:27 to give Peterborough the road victory and a 1-0 series lead.

Grant led the Lakers offense with four goals and one assist. Kelusky recorded a game high seven assists and Evans contributed with three goals and two assists in the victory.

Game 2 of this series is Tuesday, August 22nd in Peterborough with Game 3 set for Thursday, August 24th in Brampton at the Powerade Centre. Both games are scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
